Modelling Sectoral Energy Consumption in Malaysia: Assessing the Asymmetric Effects
نویسندگان
چکیده
Economic growth, energy prices, technological innovations, and financial depth all play a vital role in sectoral consumption. Early studies have extensively examined the interactions among these variables, which are important developing policies on However, to date, most estimated consumption linear fashion. If actual relationship is non-linear or asymmetric, then inferences drawn from framework may be misleading. Hence, this study, we employed autoregressive distributed lag (NARDL) approach analyse Malaysian 1978 2016. We found that bounds test of NARDL indicates presence cointegration variables. The key findings include: (1) rise income increases throughout sectors, but does not respond significantly fall income; (2) both decreases prices reduce industrial consumption, residential commercial sectors’ react positively price falls; (3) advancement transportation consumption; (4) an increase decrease credit availability private sectors reacts deepening. Moreover, effects at level were asymmetrical. indicate changes selected macroeconomic variables Granger causality effect Given findings, our study offers empirical support for inclusion non-linearity asymmetric when modelling

15 صفحه اولModelling Energy Consumption in China
Energy consumption in China has attracted considerable research interest since the middle 1990s. This is largely prompted by the environmental ramifications of the extensive use of fossil fuels in the country to propel two decades of high economic growth. Since the late 1980s, there has been an increasing awareness on the part of the Chinese government of the imperative for the balance of econo...
متن کاملThe Asymmetric Effects of Energy Consumption on Growth of Iran's Agricultural Sector Using Non-Linear Extended Lag Self-Regression (NARDL)
Energy is one of the factors used in most economic activities. The economic security of most countries depends on secure access to energy. Therefore, the production and consumption of energy and its optimal use are of particular importance. The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship between energy consumption and economic growth in the framework of nonlinear self-regressi...
متن کاملInvestigating the effect of asymmetric shocks of the shadow economy on energy consumption in terms of financial development in Iran
This paper investigates the effect of positive and negative shocks from the shadow economy and financial development on energy consumption during the period of 1974–2014 in the short and long term using the non-linear Autoregressive Distributed Lag. The ratio of liquidity to GDP has been used as an indicator of financial development, and the volume of the shadow economy calculated by Piraee and...
